Buried Alive by Jeremy Simons

"Don't forget—no one else sees the world the way you do, so no one can tell the stories that you have to tell." - Charles de Lint
I don't usually pick horror books to read, but this one was intriguing enough to snag my attention and I wasn't disappointed. Jeremy Simons has a way with words and this story will take you on a roller coaster ride!

Buried Alive is the story of one woman’s perilous journey for justification, retribution, and revenge.
Monica Campbell awakens disoriented in an unknown setting which she soon realizes to be her intended final resting place. Left for dead, she must rise from the grave to seek retribution. She must remember to be able to exact the revenge she sees fit.

With a new look and new wardrobe to match her newfound outlook and attitude, she begins her journey. She must confront the two monsters masquerading as the two men she thought she could trust over anyone else. She must open up and allow her more primordial instincts to take hold. She must stoop to their level.

She will lie and connive to get the two men alone. She will tap into her own sexual being to manipulate them. She will earn retribution, but at what cost? What cost will she have to pay to exact the revenge she sees fit?

My 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 review on Amazon:

Excellent piece of work! I love a quick read that pulls me in from the get go and keeps me guessing and wanting more through the entire book. And the author did not disappoint!

The story begins with Monica waking up to complete darkness and forgetting what had happened and why she was there. What a thrill of a ride and I'm excited to read more from this author. If you love a suspenseful, exciting short story, this is the book for you!

Searching For Sullivan by Carissa Ann Lynch

"Write what disturbs you, what you fear, what you have not been willing to speak about. Be willing to be split open." - Natalie Goldberg
Searching for Sullivan by Carissa Ann Lynch was truly a treat to read. It's a book you climb into and actually experience, wanting nothing more than to stay within the story for as long as you possibly can! The author has a gift with words and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work. She did write a short story in the Shattered Time Anthology, which you can find more about in the archives and under my books. That story is phenomenal, as well!

Searching for Sullivan
Veronica didn’t believe in ghosts—until her son became one…

Veronica von Derbach is a young mother with a promising career in psychology. She considers herself a sane person, with no interest in paranormal hocus-pocus, until a fateful camping trip tears her life apart. While boating in the midst of a turbulent storm, her only child, Sullivan, disappears from the bow of the boat. Though they never find his body, he can only be presumed dead.

Veronica can’t bring herself to move on…

Searching for peace, Veronica finds herself drawn to the darker, less respected career of parapsychology, the study of apparitional beings. But she finds no answers there, only bitterness. She takes great pleasure in traveling the United States, debunking paranormal mysteries and discrediting ghostly claims. She doesn’t believe in ghosts. She doesn’t believe in anything except the emptiness that has claimed her since the disappearance of Sullivan. But then she receives a mysterious fax—a grainy, ghostly image of her long-lost son.

To find the truth, she must delve into the unknown…

Veronica now faces the greatest challenge of her career. She must succeed in her search for Sullivan and find out the dreadful truth about what happened to him that day at the lake, before other children suffer the same fate.

And here is what I thought of it!

This book was ridiculously AWESOME! I can't say enough about the thrill of this read! Turns and twists and keeping me on the edge of my seat, as I read as fast as I could, anxious to know what was going to happen next. The author did a fantastic job of creating suspenseful scenes and making you feel like you were right there with the characters. This is a book you climb into and don't want to come back out!

If you love a suspenseful, paranormal thrill, this is the book for you!! Loved every single part, from beginning to end!

Awaken

Step into a scene and let it drip from your fingertips. - MJ Bush
Awaken was such a fun read for me.  I couldn't get enough of Sophia and her friend Jaz and I'm excited to start reading Surrender, the next book in this series.  Here's the blurb:

SOME PEOPLE AREN'T DESTINED TO BE ORDINARY.
With a special gift held close to her heart, it was always going to be hard for Sophia Woodville to live an ordinary life.
As a 20 year old nursing grad, she thought she had her future all sorted.
However, destiny was about to intervene.
Her secret was not so secret. The gift she possessed was just a hint of something far beyond her wildest imagination.
Sophia will be pulled, kicking and screaming, into an unseen, ancient world that challenges all that she thought to be true of herself, her family and the origins of humanity.
Original sin, forbidden love and her life in constant danger.
Will Sophia survive this dark twist of fate?
Will the devil be her saviour?
Will an Angel be her downfall?

Take a moment and read my review for this thrilling fantasy book:
Well, there you have it. This book is AMAZING! Okay, there were a few slow spots here and there, along with a little too much description, but overall this is an excellent piece of work.

I loved Sophia and her rainbow hair. The author did a great job of creating a well-rounded protagonist, who is easy to fall in love with. My absolute favorite character was Jaz, Sophia's best friend. I have a few friends who have mixes of Jaz's personality and they are the best! No fear to tell the world what is on her mind! Love it!

I was not expecting the ending. I had my ideas and I was nearly convinced I had it figured out, until the author threw me for a loop. Brilliant ending and I can't wait to dive into her next book, Surrender! I highly recommend reading this engrossing fantasy book.

Infectus Phytor

"The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.”
—Arthur C. Clarke
I really enjoyed this book by Kurt Smolek, although the author did tell more of the story than he did show it.  But the story line, the plot, and the characters were all well-rounded and enthralling.  Here is the review I posted:
The story line and the characters of this story, I absolutely loved! The only reason I'm giving it a 4-star is because there was far too much "telling" instead of "showing", which made those sections difficult for me to read. However, the plot of the story and the building of the characters was genius. This story has promise and I'm excited to see what's in store for the next book!

If you love aliens, unusual superheroes, and fighting to save the Earth, then this story is for you!

Hot Toddy by T.C. Collins

“Let us read, and let us dance; these two amusements will never do any harm to the world.” ― Voltaire
This book!! It pulled me in and wouldn't let me leave!

Here's the review I left on Goodreads and Amazon:

What a wild story! I could NOT put this book down! The author has a way with words and from the beginning she dragged me down the rabbit hole, to a land of sparkle, riches, sex, and crazy, sexy, wild life. I was enthralled by LJ's journey and could relate to how she felt as a young 21 year old. Although my story is far different from hers, I understood her and remember those moments where the world was my oyster, but I had no idea what I was doing. Great story, fantastic characters, and a rush of a ride!

I highly recommend this book and you should check out the author as well!

And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. ~Sylvia Plath

My review:
An interesting read that kept me on my toes for the entire duration of the story! I love history and the ideas this author presents in his story are fascinating! Shane, the protagonist, is a young man in eighth grade, who has a paper route every morning. From the first chapter, the author introduces the conflict this boy will face and the excitement and mystery behind it. Great way to pull a reader right in!

I think anyone who enjoys spiritual, science and history all wrapped up in one book, would love this story.
