Lord of Fire: #1 The Fire Chronicles

Hello everyone!  I have been down for a while and I'm finally catching back up to all my book posts.  I apologize for the delay for all those who have been waiting!

This next book was an easy and enjoyable read.  I loved the author's unique writing style, along with her introduction to a new species of intelligent persons.

Lord of Fire: #1 The Fire Chronicles

Gaians have stayed hidden from the eyes of humankind for centuries, but there is change in the air...
Sudden inheritance is thrust upon the young Gaian warrior, Luminor:
The sign has appeared, a deadly threat, spoken of in ancient prophecy.
This prophecy must be fulfilled. And Luminor is the one named for the task.
A raving lunatic turns up in the main square of Splendo, dying of burns in front of a large crowd.
Most say he is mad...but is he?
Victims continue to arrive from the north with crazy stories and the desperate human council calls for volunteers to deal with the problem.
Under Luminor's leadership, the secretive clan of Gaians risk everything by coming out of hiding to take up the quest in return for an alliance.
Not only the fulfillment of Gaian is also their only chance of survival.
Luminor alone possesses unique power which can assure victory.
With his small band of warriors, he embarks on a twisting, turning adventure, as he grapples with his destiny as Lord of Fire, falls deeply in love and overcomes betrayal, all testing his mystical talents to the limit.
Can he finally claim his soulmate and truly establish the Alliance?
And my 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 review:
This book was super easy to dive into, but after a few chapters it slowed considerably and it struggled to keep my attention throughout a large chunk of the beginning. However, I kept going and I'm glad I did. The world developing and explanation of species and characters, although hugely in depth and a little too much for me, helped me understand the world better and the Gaian civilization. The author has a different writing style and created a unique journey for her readers that I'm excited to continue down with the next book in the series! Would definitely recommend!

Morium: Book One of the Young Adult Supernatural Trilogy by S.J. Hermann

To produce a mighty book, you must choose a mighty theme. – Herman Melville
Most paranormal/sci-fi books spike my interest, fairly easily, but when I first laid my eyes on the book cover of Morium book one and read the blurb, I knew this would be a winner!  The first picture is my hard copy, but since I purchased it, the author has redone the cover.  I posted that one down below.

If you had the powers to avenge yourself... would you?
Bullied... Years of shame... Lexi and Nathan knew pain.

MORIUM is the story of Alexandria and Nathan... and Stacy. Three teenagers who were victims of bullying all through high school. They kept their torment a secret from their family and tried to cope in their own way. They only had each other. Their friendship saw them through the seemingly endless years of suffering.

But hope was in sight… they will be graduating soon. The vision of a new life away from the bullies and the constant humiliation, gave them something to look forward to. If only that day came sooner.

One night, Lexi and Nathan saw an object fall from the sky and went to investigate. As they touched the rock, a strange power entered their bodies. Suddenly, they're not helpless anymore. They can get revenge for all the suffering and pain they had to endure.

How will they use these powers?

MORIUM discusses the moral dilemma of doing what's right against getting revenge. When your dignity has been shattered and your life has been a living hell... what is RIGHT?

Possible trigger warning. Scenes of self harm may be disturbing to sensitive readers.
And my 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 review:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The author does a fantastic job of building his characters and creating a realistic story line about bullying and the trials of being abused through high school. My heart went out to the three main characters and I partially understood their heartache and agony.

Adding the paranormal twist to the story, only made it that more intriguing and kept me reading as quickly as I could. If you want a great YA paranormal read, this is the one for you. It will grip your heart, along with your undivided attention. I can't wait to read what happens in book two!

You can find the author on most social media, but a direct link to his books on Amazon is here:

You won't regret reading this authors work.  I for one have book two on my TBR list and can't wait to continue on with the story!  Enjoy!

Kenco: The God Daughter by Makala Thomas

“Everybody else is working to change, persuade, tempt and control them. The best readers come to fiction to be free of all that noise.”
—Philip Roth
I love Makala Thomas's books and this book was just as exciting and mysterious as her other ones! A fascinating and deep mind this author must have, to write with such strength and darkness, while tugging you along to a world you never knew could exist.

Kenco: The GodDaughter

There is good in me, but the dark in me overrules it.

Kenco Diamond is a teen like no other. Taken under the wing of a gang leader at fourteen, she was trained and learnt every physical and mental skill to become a notorious and feared desperado with the tag name Demon, known to other gangs as The Goddaughter. Showing no mercy at all when it came to punishment and murder, Kenco only spared the lives of innocents and never let her feelings get in the way of who and what she was… until she met Tyler Douglas, a young man in her class. Kenco begins to have a heart after spending time with Tyler, someone normal, and she starts to feel conflicted… until she got a severe wake-up call after being brutally attacked by someone who wanted revenge on her, and she realises that Demon is who she is, what she is, and she will always be The Goddaughter.

Another 5-star book!  Here is the review I left on Amazon and Goodreads:

Twists and turns!
Another fantastic book by Makala Thomas! Fast-paced, full of adventure and suspense, and a character you hate to love, but do anyway. The author has a way with spinning a tale and she kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning.

I had to take a break from reading this book, because I was reading 4 books at once and not finishing any of them. I needed to focus on one at a time! So, I started reading it again a few days ago and finished 3/4 of the book in that time. Great story! I loved getting to know Kenco and was pulled into her world, loving her sassy attitude and fierce confidence. I will be buying the next book in the series and can't wait to start it!

Buried Alive by Jeremy Simons

"Don't forget—no one else sees the world the way you do, so no one can tell the stories that you have to tell." - Charles de Lint
I don't usually pick horror books to read, but this one was intriguing enough to snag my attention and I wasn't disappointed. Jeremy Simons has a way with words and this story will take you on a roller coaster ride!

Buried Alive is the story of one woman’s perilous journey for justification, retribution, and revenge.
Monica Campbell awakens disoriented in an unknown setting which she soon realizes to be her intended final resting place. Left for dead, she must rise from the grave to seek retribution. She must remember to be able to exact the revenge she sees fit.

With a new look and new wardrobe to match her newfound outlook and attitude, she begins her journey. She must confront the two monsters masquerading as the two men she thought she could trust over anyone else. She must open up and allow her more primordial instincts to take hold. She must stoop to their level.

She will lie and connive to get the two men alone. She will tap into her own sexual being to manipulate them. She will earn retribution, but at what cost? What cost will she have to pay to exact the revenge she sees fit?

My 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 review on Amazon:

Excellent piece of work! I love a quick read that pulls me in from the get go and keeps me guessing and wanting more through the entire book. And the author did not disappoint!

The story begins with Monica waking up to complete darkness and forgetting what had happened and why she was there. What a thrill of a ride and I'm excited to read more from this author. If you love a suspenseful, exciting short story, this is the book for you!

Searching For Sullivan by Carissa Ann Lynch

"Write what disturbs you, what you fear, what you have not been willing to speak about. Be willing to be split open." - Natalie Goldberg
Searching for Sullivan by Carissa Ann Lynch was truly a treat to read. It's a book you climb into and actually experience, wanting nothing more than to stay within the story for as long as you possibly can! The author has a gift with words and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work. She did write a short story in the Shattered Time Anthology, which you can find more about in the archives and under my books. That story is phenomenal, as well!

Searching for Sullivan
Veronica didn’t believe in ghosts—until her son became one…

Veronica von Derbach is a young mother with a promising career in psychology. She considers herself a sane person, with no interest in paranormal hocus-pocus, until a fateful camping trip tears her life apart. While boating in the midst of a turbulent storm, her only child, Sullivan, disappears from the bow of the boat. Though they never find his body, he can only be presumed dead.

Veronica can’t bring herself to move on…

Searching for peace, Veronica finds herself drawn to the darker, less respected career of parapsychology, the study of apparitional beings. But she finds no answers there, only bitterness. She takes great pleasure in traveling the United States, debunking paranormal mysteries and discrediting ghostly claims. She doesn’t believe in ghosts. She doesn’t believe in anything except the emptiness that has claimed her since the disappearance of Sullivan. But then she receives a mysterious fax—a grainy, ghostly image of her long-lost son.

To find the truth, she must delve into the unknown…

Veronica now faces the greatest challenge of her career. She must succeed in her search for Sullivan and find out the dreadful truth about what happened to him that day at the lake, before other children suffer the same fate.

And here is what I thought of it!

This book was ridiculously AWESOME! I can't say enough about the thrill of this read! Turns and twists and keeping me on the edge of my seat, as I read as fast as I could, anxious to know what was going to happen next. The author did a fantastic job of creating suspenseful scenes and making you feel like you were right there with the characters. This is a book you climb into and don't want to come back out!

If you love a suspenseful, paranormal thrill, this is the book for you!! Loved every single part, from beginning to end!

Step into a scene and let it drip from your fingertips. - MJ Bush
Awaken was such a fun read for me.  I couldn't get enough of Sophia and her friend Jaz and I'm excited to start reading Surrender, the next book in this series.  Here's the blurb:

With a special gift held close to her heart, it was always going to be hard for Sophia Woodville to live an ordinary life.
As a 20 year old nursing grad, she thought she had her future all sorted.
However, destiny was about to intervene.
Her secret was not so secret. The gift she possessed was just a hint of something far beyond her wildest imagination.
Sophia will be pulled, kicking and screaming, into an unseen, ancient world that challenges all that she thought to be true of herself, her family and the origins of humanity.
Original sin, forbidden love and her life in constant danger.
Will Sophia survive this dark twist of fate?
Will the devil be her saviour?
Will an Angel be her downfall?

Take a moment and read my review for this thrilling fantasy book:
Well, there you have it. This book is AMAZING! Okay, there were a few slow spots here and there, along with a little too much description, but overall this is an excellent piece of work.

I loved Sophia and her rainbow hair. The author did a great job of creating a well-rounded protagonist, who is easy to fall in love with. My absolute favorite character was Jaz, Sophia's best friend. I have a few friends who have mixes of Jaz's personality and they are the best! No fear to tell the world what is on her mind! Love it!

I was not expecting the ending. I had my ideas and I was nearly convinced I had it figured out, until the author threw me for a loop. Brilliant ending and I can't wait to dive into her next book, Surrender! I highly recommend reading this engrossing fantasy book.

Surrender is #5 on my TBR list and I am chomping at the bit to get to it.  Until then, grab your own copy of Awaken and let me know what you think!

Infectus Phytor

"The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.”
—Arthur C. Clarke
I really enjoyed this book by Kurt Smolek, although the author did tell more of the story than he did show it.  But the story line, the plot, and the characters were all well-rounded and enthralling.  Here is the review I posted:
The story line and the characters of this story, I absolutely loved! The only reason I'm giving it a 4-star is because there was far too much "telling" instead of "showing", which made those sections difficult for me to read. However, the plot of the story and the building of the characters was genius. This story has promise and I'm excited to see what's in store for the next book!

If you love aliens, unusual superheroes, and fighting to save the Earth, then this story is for you!
